PSV vs Club Brugge: Bosz’s press meets Belgian pace in Eindhoven
PSV host Club Brugge on Wednesday, November 4, in the fourth round of the Champions League league phase. The Dutch side have four points after winning at Porto; Brugge have six following victories over Inter and Lens. PSV's 7-0 win against Willem II and Brugge's 4-2 success at Zulte Waregem suggest both attacks have found a rhythm. Neither domestic result settles how this European meeting will play out.

At the Philips Stadion, the contrast is sharper than the two-point gap suggests. PSV drew 1-1 with Shakhtar, lost 1-0 at Leipzig and won 1-0 at Porto. Brugge lost 3-2 to Aston Villa before beating Inter 4-3 and Lens 3-0. UEFA places Peter Bosz's team 18th and Ivan Leko's 11th before Matchday 4. A home win would move PSV one point ahead of their visitors; an away win would stretch Brugge's advantage to five.

A different test for PSV's width
PSV scored seven against Willem II on Saturday, with seven different players finding the net. After that match, Bosz explained how he had pushed Sergiño Dest higher and used Lutsharel Geertruida on the right during phases of play. He also pointed to the team's pressing and energy in forcing the opponent back. Those movements offer a possible way around a crowded midfield, though the arrangement against Willem II is no guarantee of Wednesday's starting eleven. Ruben van Bommel's account of the spread of scorers underlined a performance that did not depend on one finisher.
Brugge's four goals at Zulte Waregem were also shared. Hugo Vetlesen struck after two minutes; Carlos Forbs, Nicolò Tresoldi and Hans Vanaken added goals before half-time. The Belgian Pro League recorded 17 Brugge shots and 14 corners. Yet Zulte Waregem scored twice through Tobias Hedl. Leko's choice is therefore about balance as much as attacking confidence: how to get Forbs and Tresoldi into dangerous areas without leaving a route for Dest and Van Bommel in the other direction.
Vanaken and Vetlesen can connect midfield to the box, Forbs can drive down a flank and Tresoldi can occupy the central defenders. For PSV, Guus Til offers runs from behind the forwards and Ivan Perišić another way to stretch the pitch. These are roles seen in recent matches and UEFA's projected team, not confirmed selections. PSV's first line of pressure could disrupt Brugge's buildup; if the visitors pass through it, they may find space behind the advancing full-backs. The quality of those transitions may matter more than the final possession percentage.
Availability and the decisions still to come
UEFA's projected lineups guide, updated November 3, lists absences for this match. It is a Fantasy Football forecast, rather than an official squad announcement. PSV separately confirmed on October 29 that Sami Ouaissa had suffered a new injury and would be unavailable for several months; the club did not specify its type in that statement.
PSV Eindhoven
- Sami Ouaissa: PSV confirmed a long absence. UEFA's guide describes a hamstring problem.
- Sam Lammers: listed as out with a muscular problem in UEFA's provisional guide.
- Paul Wanner: listed as out with a foot problem in the same guide.
- Doubtful players: none listed by UEFA. PSV have yet to announce a final match squad.
Club Brugge
- Joel Ordoñez: listed as out with a toe problem in UEFA's provisional guide.
- Doubtful players: none listed by UEFA. Brugge have yet to announce a final match squad.
If Ordoñez is unavailable, Brugge could retain the Brandon Mechele–Jorne Spileers central partnership that began the Zulte Waregem game. Leko will make the final choice. For PSV, the Porto win and Saturday's emphatic league victory provide different kinds of confidence, while the players listed as unavailable narrow Bosz's attacking and midfield options. Bosz said his side finished the Willem II match without a new injury. That statement concerns Saturday's game; it does not establish the squad for Wednesday.
