Buenos Aires A perfect getaway and an unmissable excursion to Montevideo

Buenos Aires, the vibrant capital of Argentina, captivates every traveler who decides to explore it. If you only have a few days in this city, there is no time to waste. From its imposing European architecture, to the passion of tango and irresistible gastronomy, Buenos Aires offers unique experiences in every corner. Here we tell you what to do in a few days and how to complement your trip with a quick getaway to Montevideo using Buquebus.

Day 1: The historic center and San Telmo

Start your porteño adventure in the historic heart of Buenos Aires. Visit the iconic Plaza de Mayo, surrounded by important buildings such as the Casa Rosada, seat of the Argentine government, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Cabildo. Don't forget to take out your camera to capture these architectural wonders.

Then walk to San Telmo, the oldest neighborhood in Buenos Aires. With cobblestone streets, antique markets, and historic cafes, San Telmo is ideal for hours of wandering. Visit the San Telmo Market, where you will find local products, handicrafts and authentic porteño cuisine. In the afternoon, enjoy a coffee in one of the traditional bars, such as El Federal, open since 1864.

Day 2: La Boca, Puerto Madero and tango passion

Start the day visiting La Boca, famous for its colorful houses and the street art that decorates every corner. Walk along the famous Caminito street, full of local artists, souvenir stores and small restaurants offering typical Argentine asados.

From there, head to Puerto Madero, a modern and elegant neighborhood. Stroll along its docks, admire the skyscrapers and visit the Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge), an architectural symbol designed by Santiago Calatrava. Here you can have lunch in one of the exclusive restaurants overlooking the river.

In the evening, live an authentic porteño experience by attending a tango show. Places like "Esquina Homero Manzi" or "El Viejo Almacén" offer incredible shows that capture the essence of Argentine tango.

Day 3: Recoleta and Palermo, art and nightlife

Recoleta is another of Buenos Aires' emblematic neighborhoods. Visit its famous cemetery, where historical Argentine figures, such as Eva Perón, rest. Then explore the National Museum of Fine Arts, which houses works by great artists such as Rembrandt, Goya and Van Gogh.

After your cultural tour, head to the Palermo neighborhood, famous for its independent boutiques, cozy bookstores, specialty cafes and huge parks such as the Botanical Garden or Tres de Febrero Park. Palermo is also ideal for enjoying a gourmet dinner in avant-garde restaurants and closing the night in its renowned bars and nightclubs.

Quick getaway to Montevideo by Buquebus ferry

If you have an extra day, the best way to complement it is by taking an excursion to Montevideo, the charming capital of Uruguay, accessible in just a couple of hours from Buenos Aires with Buquebus.

Buquebus offers several daily frequencies connecting both cities by means of comfortable and modern ferries that cross the Rio de la Plata. In addition, the service is practical and allows you to make the most of your time, since you disembark directly in downtown Montevideo.

What to see in Montevideo in one day

Montevideo is ideal for walking or cycling. Start your walk in the Old City, visiting the Plaza Independencia, which marks the boundary between the old and modern city. There you can admire the mausoleum of José Artigas, Uruguay's national hero.

Continue your tour to the Mercado del Puerto, where you will taste the best Uruguayan grilled meats. In the afternoon, enjoy the promenade known as "La Rambla", ideal for walking and watching the incredible views of the Rio de la Plata.

If you are a culture lover, take the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Visual Arts in Parque Rodó, which houses temporary and permanent exhibitions of Uruguayan and international artists.

End the day with a coffee in Pocitos, one of the most attractive neighborhoods, or watch the sunset at Ramírez Beach, a favorite spot for locals.
